Many of you may have already heard of studies which found that a lay person can actually be a more effective therapist for the mentally ill, than a certified psychologist or psychiatrist. In study after study, the person with the most marginal training actually made the best therapist! Of course, the psychs will say that the studies are flawed. A former president of the Oregon Psychologist Association, Robnyn M. Dawes, even said so,[1] but went on to say that they all have different flaws, making the consistency of their results into a serious criticism of their practices. He also pointed out that in light of the fact that these studies consistently show an inverse relationship between effectiveness and the number of credentials a therapist has, these studies MUST be taken seriously. This president offered two reasons why this is the case:

The more credentials a shrink has, the more likely he is to make snap diagnoses. They get lazy and forget how complicated and convoluted mental disorders can be. They also see less and less of their patients as they get promoted within their clinics or hospitals. They misjudge the value of their own experience and rely more on "professional intuition". This is a phenomonen which has also been studied and compared with the reliability of standarized tests. I learned about some of these tests when I was in college. At best, they delivered 70% reliability. Supposedly, they have since raised that to 80%, which means the tests are still wrong, at least 20% of the time. Professional intuition, at best, demonstrates only 60% reliabilty, making them wrong 40% of the time. Psychiatrists can dispense drugs. The drugs they prescribe tend to have serious long-term consequences. These include tardiv dyskinesia, tardiv psychosis and sexual dysfunction. Psychistrists can wield tyrannical legal power The worst part of this, is that psychiatrists are in a position in which, by their word alone, they can deprive you of your liberty, your Constitutional Rights, your individual soveriegnty. One psychiatrist, Dr. Thomas Szasz, has campaigned long and hard, insisting most people committed by psychiatrists are not insane, only eccentric. Szasz also says that psychiatry has ceased to be scientific discipline and has, instead, been functionally reduced to a priesthood, a priesthood which by pretending to be scientific has obtained special powers and protections from government. |
The profession of Psychiatry has been reduced to worse than quakery. Under pretense of helping you with your emotional problems, they rob you what you need most to help youself with: your personal sovereignty, then they lobotomize and castrate you. Of course, they don't call it that, because they don't use drastic surgery anymore; they do slowly it with drugs. Psychiatrists are the worst kind of drug pushers. They don't have to ask you to buy it; they can force it on you, and they do. When you have been emotionally, kinesthetically and financially destroyed, they get welfare to support both you, and their "treatment", for the rest of your miserable life.
So who is protected by licensing? Certainly not the patients.
